SIT WEST: THE BEST TECHNO INSTITUTE IN WESTERN ODISHA

Silicon Institute of Technology, Sambalpur or also popularly known as SIT WEST is an
engineering college under the Biju Patnaik University of Technology, India and is affiliated to AICTE. It believes something i.e beyond teaching so the moto is just like that “BEYOND
TEACHING”. It is located in Sason, 17-18 km far from Sambalpur city in Western Odisha. The college is situated in an environment far from the hustle and bustle of the city. The college is maintaining its natural ecosystems which adds the crown of attraction to this college. The college actually situated by the side of the national highway joining Sambalpur and Rourkela. The college campus is mushroomed with tons of greeneries along with different types of wildlife. The pupils in this college even get acquainted with these natural beauty and they even love to catalyse this to a great extent. The college cares its flora and appointed a group of gardeners who take care of it. The college had free spaces inside the academic block covered with a carpet of green grass and even college had oasis just similar to the oasis in a desert. This is named oasis because it always gives a message that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. The college students also have pets like kittens, puppies, bunnies etc. which are being upbrought by their love, kindness,food from the canteen and lots of sympathy from all siliconites.


The college was established in 2009,The Director of this technical institution is Prof. Pradeep
Kumar Mishra and dean of the institute is Dr.(prof.) Enakshi Das. The college was set up and
managed by Samaleswari Education Trust. SIT WEST’s placements are taken care of by Placement Orientation programs held for the Pre-final students at the end of 6th Semester i e in 7th semester. A Campus Recruitment Training (CRT) is provided to all siliconites which includes professional behavior, etiquette, manners & the most important thing communication etc from the first semester itself. This field is mentored by Dr. Tyagraj Thakur. Pre- Assessment and Post- Assessment test which includes aptitude/logical reasoning/communication skill and domain knowledge are conducted by reputed
professional assessing agencies before and after CRT. As a result of which if we look upon the placement records of the institute this year then the highest package went up to ₹7.00 lacs
approximately and given by the organisation SPIKEWELL and given to Mr.Ankur Raj from 7th semester. Approximately half the students from final year were placed till the end of October. And many more to go. The modules of the CRT are regularly validated by Senior HR professionals of Top MNC’s. The campus placement drives were organised in the silicon’s Bhubaneswar campus. The students from here went over there to get placed. SIT makes sure that All the reputed organizations including MNCs like Spikewell, Cognizant, Wipro, TCS, Infosys etc come to the College for campus recruitment. The students, in turn have made the college feel proud by excelling in their roles by getting hired by two to three organisations. It has been the department’s endeavor to develop competent human resources with necessary technical skills and responsible citizens for the society.

The faculties of SIT WEST is much helpful and had an enthusiasm to develop a student’s all
round development. The college provides Bachelor in technology (B.Tech) course in 5 different top most branches viz. Civil engineering(CE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electrical Engineering(EE), Electronic & communication Engineering (ECE) and lastly the trending one Computer science and engineering (CSE). Not only education the college was also secured about the development of the co-scholastic areas like sports and games, technical festivals, dance and music, Art and Literature etc. The college has its own technical festival known as “TECHSTACY” which comprises of many technical and cultural events. The hostilities of SIT celebrates all the festivals with a great spirit so as to make the silicon residence fill homely. The college is growing exponentially as the gap between the year of establishment and current is increasing. The students are like children if college is the mother. The students of this college doesn’t leave a single chance where they get a scope to lift their mother’s name. With this it has developed a lot and Even faced many ups and downs but still it is standing straight and work as an Engineer producer.

TECHBRATION 2019

TECHBRATION 2019, an event to scrutinize the engineering cognizance was held in two phases starting from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Events like this unleash the individual talent of engineering students. Prelims in which students from every year participated, was held on 6th November. Out of everyone who participated in Prelims, only the top 10 qualified for the Finale which was held on 7th November. The program was successfully organized in the Gallery-I.

Contenders of the Prelims were asked to answer 40 Multiple Choice Questions in 40 minutes. Each question carried 2 marks along with a negative marking of 0.25 marks. The MCQs included topics like Programming, Technology, Science and Aptitude. Top 10 performers proceeded for the Finale to be held on the next day.

After the Prelims were over, results were out in which Manoj Krushna Mohanta of the 5th semester peaked the list with an amazing score of 20.25. After him, the list was followed by K.S Agyam Kumar Naik, Manglesh Kumar Ranjan, Subham Kumar, Niket Nirupam, Nitesh Kumar Srivastav, Ravi Kumar Gupta, K. Puspalata, Akash Raj and Dibyaranjan Panigrahi. They all were the entrant for the TECHBRATION 2019 FINALE.

In Finale, the 10 players were paired into 5 teams through a lottery draw to play 5 rounds. The first round included questions from the sectors like History, Geography, Politics, Sports and Literature. The first team had the advantage of choosing their favorite topic from the above listed and the left topics were for the rest groups. In the same fashion, topics of their interest were chosen by the successive groups but the last group had to compromise with the residual topic.

In the second round of the Finale, groups had to form a word using two pictures displayed on the screen. The third round had questions related to specific engineering branches. Fourth round comprised of identification of great personalities. The fifth round was made up of random questions.

The 3rd group (Subham Kumar & Manoj Krushna Mohanta) was the leading group in all the five rounds and landed up with the highest score of 180 and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1500. Runners-up group- Akash Raj and Niket Nirupam with a score of 40 and were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1000.

All the finalists were endowed with a “Certificate of Participation”. The rest three groups other than the winner and runner-up group were given Celebrations by Ms. Enakshi Das and Mr. Tyagraj Thakur. Other than the finalists, council members and a couple of audiences also came to make the event more interactive. They were given Chocolates for answering every unanswered question by the participants.

Science exhibition by 1st year: First of its kind @ Silicon Sambalpur

A science exhibition was held on the 9th of November, 2019 wherein students from 1st semester showcased static and working models which can be used for learning various scientific concepts. The objective was not only to inculcate a scientific attitude and research-mindedness but also creating teaching aids. It involves students to participate in activities so as to understand the cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects of the task. It was the first of its kind in the history of SIT WEST where students from the batch 2019-2023 showcased their creative and innovative talents. The Science Exhibition was held as part of the inaugural ceremony of the newly setup club named after Albert Einstein i.e Albert Einstein Science Club. The Silicon Student Council (SSC) took the responsibility of smooth functioning of the program. Mr. Santosh Kumar Sahoo, FIC SSC guided his team of council member and prepared the agenda as well as activity chart for the programs. The inauguration of the science club was done in Gallery-I at 10:30 AM and the ribbon was cut by honourable Director of SIT WEST at 11.00 AM. The exhibition was started thereafter. Student coordinators of the ROBOTICS CLUB mentored the participating students in this activity and helped them prepare the working models. Mr. Jasvinder Singh and Mr. Biswa Priyadarshan Swain rendered relentless support and assistance for the completion of the projects. The topics of the exhibition were namely, (1) Light fidelity (LI-FI), (2) Voice controlled car with radar system, (3) Smart waste management system, (4) Smart home
automation, (5) Air pollution monitoring system, (6) Smoke absorber system, (7) Vacuum cleaner, (8) Maze learner and (9) Road safety control system. Students had prepared working models, charts and posters to present their topics. Dr Enakshi Das (DEAN, SIT WEST) took the initiative of encouraging the 1st year students to put up such a wonderful and enlightening exhibition. The judge panel consisted of 4 senior faculties from different branches namely, Mr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra (ME), Mr. Sudeep Kumar Patel (CE), Mr. Ashutosh Rath (CE) and Mr. Nabin Kumar Naik (ECE). The judges appreciated the students. They asked students about the scientific concepts forming the foundation of the models..
Charts based on ALPHA CAMP & LI-FI were presented well. The LI-FI model was a very unique one.

The first prize went to the LI-FI model with group members :- Siddheshwar Ojha, Abhishek Kumar Rabidas, Suraj Mahto. And the Runners up award went to the voice controlled car with radar system a.k.a Alpha Camp with presenting members:- Aniket shukla,
Gourish Bhagat, Devanshu Anand. The first position holders and runners up were awarded the certificate of participation along with trophies and all other students were given the participation certificate. Mr. Tyagraj Thakur, Mr. Prakash chandra sahoo, Mr. Manoj kumar mohapatra , Ms. Enakshi Das were awarding the participants. Along with certificates and awards the participants and all other spectators were given snacks for refreshments which was arranged by our student council. Students were encouraged to develop a scientific fervor and an attitude of research mindedness so that they develop the qualities of analytical and critical thinking. I think the students will carry further this newly built club after 1st year this culture of science exhibition will be at its peak on further years.

CULTURAL EVENTS ORGANIZED BY CAMPUS COORDINATION COMMITTEE, SIT WEST

On 25th October 2019, a Sketch Competition was organized by the CCC. The topic of this competition was “My Dream” .Students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm where they showed their talents by sketching their own dreams. The first position was secured by Mr. Chowdhury Swayansu Satyaprajna of 1st year (CSE), the Second position was secured by Ms. Kanchan Singh of 2nd year (CSE) and the third position was secured by Mr. Anukul Chandra Mahto of 2nd year (ME). Similarly, the Rangoli competition was organized on 26th October 2019 by the CCC. The total time given to the participants was one hour in which they tried to show their talents in the best possible way. The first position was secured by Mr. Chowdhury Swayansu Satyapranja of 1st year (CSE), the second position was secured by Ms. Kanchan Singh of 2nd year (CSE) and the third position was secured by Ms. Isha
Singh of 3rd year (ECE). The CCC also organized a traditional Mehndi contest on 23rd October 2019 which received an overwhelming response from students. The zealous participants etched out awe inspiring creative designs. Ms. Anjali Kumari of 3rd year (CE), Ms. Snigdharani Pradhan of 2nd year (CSE), Ms. Poojarinee Mallick of 4th year (CSE) bagged first, second and third prizes respectively. Everybody encouraged the students and the committee for putting in their efforts to keep this cultural and traditional art form alive.
